You’ve found a Denver long distance moving company, so you’re all organized with the move itself. There is something you know you have to do first, however: You need to declutter. You’ve spend years accumulating things you don’t really need, but you are daunted by the sheer volume and emotional wear and tear of making decisions about what to do with all the extra items. We know decluttering can be daunting, which is why we wrote the Ultimate Decluttering List to help you prepare for your move. Let’s begin:[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]
Step One: Start Now
Even if you’re ruthless about the items you get rid of (and, let’s be hones – most of us aren’t), the de-cluttering process takes a while. After all, the reason you got into this mess is because you put off organization until the next day “when it is convenient.” The sooner the start, the sooner you’ll be free from the clutter in your life. The decisions regarding each item will be easier to make each time, and you’ll soon gain momentum. The last thing you want to do is save your de-cluttering for when you are packing up your home for your move.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]
Step Two: Start Small
You’re likely overwhelmed by the sheer volume of the stuff you have to deal with. All those garage sales you frequented, the toys your neighbor gave you when she moved out, and the bags full of items from sales “too good to pass up” are sitting in your home – it’s overwhelming. So, don’t let yourself get overwhelmed – start small. Pick a spot in your home that is cluttered, and deal with just that. Take the counter in your entryway that collects all the junk mail and paraphernalia – clean just that one area off completely. Then, tackle another project the next day.

Step Three: Have a Plan
Everyone has their own method for organization and de-cluttering. If you feel prepared and confident in your system, please us whatever works best for you. We have a process of our own: Our suggestion is to put everything from an area into one pile. Then, sit down and prepare to make decisions. There is no “putting off until tomorrow” when it comes to this pile. Pick up an item, and decide right then and there what you want to do with it. Use the list of questions below to help you during this decision-making process.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][ultimate_spacer height=”20″][ultimate_icon_list icon_size=”32″ icon_margin=”5″][ultimate_icon_list_item icon_type=”selector” icon=”Defaults-heart” icon_color=”#fea600″ icon_style=”none” icon_color_bg=”#ffffff” icon_color_border=”#333333″ icon_border_size=”1″ icon_border_radius=”500″ icon_border_spacing=”50″]Do You Use/Love It? If you use it fairly frequently, or you have an emotional attachment to it, then you most likely need to keep it around. Find a new place for the item, or pack it for your move. If you don’t use it, or haven’t in many months, then you need to move on to the next question.[/ultimate_icon_list_item][ultimate_icon_list_item icon_type=”selector” icon=”Defaults-group” icon_color=”#fea600″ icon_style=”none” icon_color_bg=”#ffffff” icon_color_border=”#333333″ icon_border_size=”1″ icon_border_radius=”500″ icon_border_spacing=”50″]Would Someone Else Use It? If it’s an item someone else could use (i.e., it’s an everyday item in good condition), then consider donating it. Be brutal – don’t donate items with holes or chips, or damage. If it’s damaged or useless to another person, trash it![/ultimate_icon_list_item][ultimate_icon_list_item icon_type=”selector” icon=”Defaults-dropbox” icon_color=”#fea600″ icon_style=”none” icon_color_bg=”#ffffff” icon_color_border=”#333333″ icon_border_size=”1″ icon_border_radius=”500″ icon_border_spacing=”50″]Deal with it Now: Once you’ve made a decision about each item, deal with it then and there. There is no point in making hard decisions if you simply pile the items in another area of house. Put away or pack the items you’re keeping (be sure to label the boxes!). Put all the items you are donating into a box and put them in the trunk of your car to donate them. Fill trash bags with items you’re throwing away, and put them in the dumpster immediately.[/ultimate_icon_list_item][/ultimate_icon_list][ultimate_spacer height=”20″][vc_column_text]
Step Four: Be Brutal
You procrastinated on this process for a reason: Making decisions about belongings and things in your home can be difficult. Whenever you feel tugged or pulled to keep something you simply don’t have room for, ask yourself this question: Does this item have enough value to me that I want to carefully pack it, load it onto the moving van, unpack it in my new home, and find a place for it there?[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”20″][vc_column_text]
